One of the more recent projects that came up in our house was – what to do with this couch!?! We had inherited a very nice, high-end couch from my parents (thanks!) but as it turns out it was uncomfortable… at least for me. Aside from the uncomfortable part, it also didn’t match anything we have in our place either. How many strikes can a piece of furniture have against it? Nothing that a couch cover couldn’t fix!
Two specific issues we didn’t foresee with our new/used couch from Mom & Dad:
- The couch has loose cushions which are a huge P.I.T.A. when you have kids. My boys jump up and down on this thing all afternoon, and the end result is that the top/back cushions get all bent out of shape, and the couch essentially “falls apart.” So one has to straighten out and “Fluff” all of the cushions and set them up again. We end up doing this daily, which again is a HUGE Pain In The A_ _. Lather-Rinse-Repeat…You can only imagine.
- I didn’t know why at first, but every time I relaxed on this couch I ended up getting rashes or breakouts on my arms and legs. Why? Well… This is that high-end part I mentioned, it’s stuffed with feathers. That makes it soft, warm, and fluffy, and also makes me itch! When the pins and sharp ends of the feathers come out and ever-so-gently scratch me, I break out in hives. Yes I am allergic to alot of stuff, but I didn’t expect the couch to be an unfriendly place for me to sit.
The Solution – Get a New Couch? Get a Couch Cover?
We decided to get a couch cover for a few reasons – Time and Money. At least this is a temporary solution that works within our budget. I got this offline at a retailer (Sears) and we took it home.
The package has the 1 large cover, ready to be pulled over/around the couch. The package had instructions, which were smart to get you to locate the tags that say “Couch Cover Center/Back” and “Couch Cover Center/Front” so you know where to position the cover before you pull it over the sides.
Very easy to put on, we even have a 3 cushion couch and it fit with ease. It’s a good snug fit, not loose or anything. I took some before and after pictures of it (see below), and it looks sharp!
As far as comfort goes, it’s a nice quality fabric and it’s comfortable to lay on. It’s 94/6 (polyester to spandex) mix of fabric, and it has a strong elastic band around the whole bottom part. I laid down on it and I didn’t have any allergy responses. Problem solved.
This cover really transformed our couch into something better
I was originally going to look for a 2 piece couch cover (meaning it has one part for the bottom cushions, and the a larger cover for the whole couch) but in the end the 1 piece really did the job well. I recommend this product, was very satisfied with the purchase.
Before & After Photos
So very thankful for the couch from my parents – and I’m very happy I found a solution to make the couch work for us. Using a couch cover was an easy and economical way to revamp the look and feel of this living room essential – our family couch. This is where we spend a considerable amount of time, and I’m happy this product exists! It ‘s a good quality product that I recommend anyone consider if you’re looking at couch covers.
PS – I remember back in college my roommates and I would buy a set of black sheets from the store and staple it to our old couch and made it into a “New Black Couch” – this way is much better, nicer, and was a very affordable option too. Wish I had this back in college – I would have kept the cover and ditched the old couch when we moved! This would have allowed me to get a “New Black Couch” alot easier!
