I had a few old coffee cans full of everything, and whenever I needed a specific kind of screw or bolt I basically had to dump it all out and sift through them, or risk cutting my fingers while digging into the coffee can to find what I needed.
A few weeks ago I had a moment of frustration that turned into a bright idea… Why don’t I organize all this mess?
So after an hour or more of dumping out all my coffee cans and containers and sorting these items into piles, I had about 20 piles of every kind of nut, bolt, and screws you can think of. Short screws, long screws, threaded screws, etc. I also found I had a healthy supply of anchors and other random “parts” that I tend to use in my shop.
As you can imagine, I now had a workbench covered with these piles, and I knew I needed to get this organized quickly. Originally I was just thinking of getting more coffee cans and labeling them… but then I’d have more cans! Then I thought “WAIT! I have pegboard walls here..” BAM! This was all the light-bulb idea I needed! I remember my dad had a few jars on the wall of his shop, where he kept all the different hardware that we used, I wanted to replicate that somehow.
I liked what I saw and the prices were right, so I purchased a number of pegboard Jars, hooks, and a pegboard tool organizer for some screwdrivers. I also ordered a bin system that was good for the random parts I have. Can’t say enough about the good people over at DiamondLifeGear.com, they sent me a few timely emails to thank me for my order, and to let me know that my order was on the way. Less than 2 days later, I had a big box at my doorstep!
I didn’t waste any time in getting organized, I took the box down to my garage right away. Putting up all of this up took no time at all, I had everything put up on my pegboard wall in about 2 minutes, and my tools were organized in a few seconds.
Here are a few pictures from my workshop, you’ll see how I used all of the Pegboard jars, accessories, bins, and hooks to get all my stuff organized:
Now, my workspace is cleaned up and organized! No coffee cans full of random nails and screws, I can grab just what I need and get to it.
The pegboard parts bin was also worth mentioning! The bins have a simple slide “lock” on top, and at first I didn’t understand why, but after looking at it, there’s a handle that you can use to carry the organizer around! Great feature here, as you can keep all of your parts organized in the shop, but if you need to take some of my supplies with you, it’s easy to lock the bins closed and pop it off the pegboard wall, and carry it out the door. Very smart thinking!
BIG Thanks to Lauren over at DiamondLifeGear for getting my order together quickly and shipping it out!
My shop is now much more organized with my new Pegboard jars and accessories – I’m very pleased with it!
